Bill Lomicka, Board Chair
Chairman, Coulter Ridge Capital
Bill has more than four decades of healthcare financial management and venture capital experience. Over the years, he has served as a director or senior leader for several U.S. healthcare companies, including health insurance, hospital management, medical device companies, acute care hospitals, nursing and assisted living facilities, and healthcare technology firms. As Senior Vice President of Finance for Humana, Inc., Bill planned, developed, and implemented financial strategies and controls, which generated revenue growth from $145 million to $3 billion. Following Humana, Bill worked for a healthcare venture capital firm in New York City, where he developed and managed healthcare investments. He also served as Secretary of Economic Development for the Commonwealth of Kentucky, later forming a private investment firm in Louisville specializing in venture capital.
Bill currently serves as Chairman of Coulter Ridge Capital, General Partner of The Yearling Fund, and Advisory Board Member for Valley Ventures and Open Prairie Ventures. He earned his MBA degree from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania after completing his undergraduate degree from Wooster College.
Dennis Beard, Director

Dennis has built a successful 30-plus year career in financial services, healthcare services, and technology. Dennis is a Partner with Serra Ventures, offering a wide variety of professional services to emerging technology enterprises, and a Managing Partner of Serra Capital. Dennis has worked with the University of Illinois technology community and is a charter member of the University’s Entrepreneur-in-Residence program at EnterpriseWorks business incubator in the Research Park. He was formerly CEO of the Home Recovery Group of Companies, providers of home health services with over 400 employees; that entity was successfully sold in 2008.
Dennis, a CPA, has been involved throughout his career with businesses of all sizes as a Manager for PricewaterhouseCoopers, Controller for SLM Aminco, CFO for Segno Communications, CFO and CEO for the Home Recovery Group of Companies, and Partner with Blakeman and Beard, LLC, CPA’s. Dennis has served a wide range of clients including Caterpillar, Shell Oil Company, George Soros’ Quantum Fund, and Continental Illinois National Bank. As a healthcare industry CEO, he has served as President of a statewide industry trade association. Dennis has served as a speaker at various professional and educational conferences and forums. He is a regular lecturer for the China Executive Leadership Program at the University of Illinois. He also serves as an Adjunct Lecturer for the University of Illinois College of Business Department of Finance and for the Millikin University MBA Program.
Thomas A. DeBacco, Director
General Partner, Flyover Capital
Tom has been in the technology market since 1981 both as serial entrepreneur and angel investor. In over 30 years in technology, Tom has not only been in executive leadership positions at Innovative Software, Informix Software and Fox Software, but has successfully founded and built three other software companies: Visual Components (acquired by Sybase), Tidestone Technologies (acquired by Actuate), and iModules which is currently a leader in SaaS constituent engagement solutions focused in the educational market. Most recently, Tom is co-founder of Essenza Software (mobile software) and eLuminate Health (healthcare transparency software). In the late '80s and early '90s, Tom spent three years living in London and was responsible for building the international operations for Innovative Software, Informix and Fox Software. Besides being an active investor in the technology market, Tom also serves on the Board of iModules Software, Cornerstone Bancshares, Rockhurst High School, Preferred Physicians Medial and Santa Marta Retirement Center. Tom lives in Leawood, KS and is a 1981 graduate of Rockhurst University with a BSBA in business management.
Thomas Lei, Director
Sr. Executive Associate, Origami Capital Partners
Tom is an investment professional with Origami Capital Partners, a distressed and special situations investment firm with a focus on providing creative liquidity solutions based in Chicago, IL. Tom’s role with Origami encompasses sourcing, evaluating, and managing investment opportunities for the firm. Prior to his role with Origami, Tom worked in investment banking at Robert W. Baird & Co. where he helped advise middle market clients on a variety of M&A and capital raise transactions. Tom holds a BA in Economics from the University of Chicago.
Michael Peck, Director
General Partner, Open Prairie Ventures
As CEO and President of Innara Health, Michael brings a broad background of experience that includes engineering, operations, and health care investing. During his tenure, Michael has led Innara Health through the asset purchase of KC BioMedix while directing the company’s vision and strategy to advance the global understanding and improvement of neonatal feeding.
Michael has served as a founding partner of Flyover Capital and a general partner with Open Prairie Ventures, where he helped build institutional venture capital funds and portfolios. Michael has also served as Vice President of Investments at KTEC Ventures, where he managed a portfolio of over 30 early-stage technology companies and assisted with economic development legislative matters, including the legislation that created the Kansas Bioscience Authority. Prior to his venture investing career, Michael served as a Vice President at two California startups targeting B2C eCommerce and web-based B2B transactions. As a manager at Accenture, Michael advised Fortune 500 PC and retail clients for the firm's strategic management consulting practice.
Michael received an MBA from the Kellogg School of Business at Northwestern University, a master's in Engineering Management from the McCormick School of Engineering at Northwestern University and his bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Kansas.
Dr. David Stalling, Director
Founder, KC BioMedix
David is nationally recognized as an industry pioneer and leader in the fields of instrumentation and chromatography. Contributions throughout his career include 15 issued and two provisional patents, 85 published articles, and the successful launch of several new products and companies. Among his various roles he served as COO of Primus (now Trinity Bioscience), CEO of Laboratory Automation, (an ABC Labs spin-off) and SVP/Co-founder of ABC Labs, a leader in the field of chromatography. As a NASA Pre-Doctoral Fellow, his research methodology and instrumentation were used in the search for life molecules during the Apollo 11-15 Lunar Missions.
David completed his bachelor's degree in Chemistry and Mathematics from Missouri Valley College. He earned his master's degree and Ph.D. in Analytical Biochemistry at the University of Missouri, where he also completed a NASA Predoctoral Fellowship in Analytical Methodology.
